How To Make The Most Of A Brisbane Christmas!

It’s not long until Santa rides his sleigh over the city lights of Brisbane. And, to celebrate the lead-up to the festive season, Brisbane city has put together a whole range of fun events for every member of the family. From fireworks and carols to parades and lights, there’s something to inspire everyone.

Carols Extravaganza
Where: South Bank Piazza
When: 20-23 December, 2019

Head over to the South Bank Piazza for this year’s Carols Extravaganza. Running from 20-23 December, you can expect eight dazzling shows across four nights with two performances starting from 6:45pm and 8:30pm. There will be films, acrobatic aerialists, songs, dances, ballet performances and a visit from Santa himself! Tickets are $5 per person and free for toddlers aged two years and under.

Gold Lotto City Hall Lights

When: 6-24 December, 2019

Make your way to the Gold Lotto City Hall Lights for an enchanting fairytale that will captivate your imagination. This year, City Hall comes alive with a projected animated every 15 minutes created by Brisbane’s kids’ author, Samantha Wheeler. Taking place until Christmas Eve, this stunning celebration of story time runs from 7:30pm to midnight.

Brisbane City Christmas Parade
Where: Queen Street Mall
When: 13-22 December, 2019

The streets of Brisbane City come alive from 13 December with the annual Brisbane City Christmas Parade! Making its way from Edward St to King George Square through the Queen Street Mall, this iconic parade features hundreds of performers, dancers, and singers. Jolly Saint Nick will, of course, take pride of place in the parade, but little ones can also pay a visit to Santa inside the Myer Centre as well. The parade takes place from 7:00pm so make sure to get there early and nab a good vantage point!

The Lights of Christmas at St Stephen’s Cathedral

When: 11-24 December, 2019

Last year, St Stephen’s Cathedral celebrated the holiday season with a spectacular light show on Elizabeth Street. It returns again this year to celebrate the joy and goodwill of Christmas with an animation and projection on the cathedral itself. This twinkling exhibit runs every night until Christmas Eve from 7:00pm to 10:30pm. For those who love a good tune, arrive at 6:30pm and listen to the glorious chorus of carols that will be performing.

Fireworks Spectacular

Fireworks aren’t just for New Year’s Eve! Make your way to South Bank Parklands from 20-23 December for a dazzling performance of fireworks that light up the night sky from 8:00pm. Grab a seat at the Clem Jones Promenade for the best views, or head to Streets Beach and River Quay. Make sure you get in early though, as standing room fills up fast!
