Fast becoming one of the most popular animation festivals in the world, the 2017 Melbourne International Animation Festival is your comprehensive showcase of the best new and historical animations from Australia and abroad. With more than 4000 entries, 450 films, 50 screenings and 35 represented countries all in 8 days; the numbers speak for themselves.
Proving that animation is not a genre devoted to kids the Melbourne International Animations Festival is the largest festival of its kind in Australia. Be sure to check out some part of the 2017 festival, which includes a multitude of screenings, the Render Animation Conference and, this year, a week-long program of symposiums to celebrate the centenary of Australian animation.
The Festival kicks off in June starting with the all-important Australian Showcase then followed by more great highlights across the eight days including; Panorama Programs, Best of the Next Student Festival, Late Night Bizarre, Kids Program, Music Video and the much-loved Best of the Fest.
Supported by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Australian Film Commission and the Melbourne City Council, it is Australia’s largest animation event. Over the course of the festival more than 450 films from over 35 separate countries are shown. Highlights of the festival include many guest artists and visiting animators.
As well as the core International Competition Programs there are a diverse collection of carefully curated programs at Melbourne International Animation Festival.
